REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE. AND REINVENT! BY TONELLO

By:

At the next edition of Kingpins in Amsterdam, Tonello will be presenting an exclusive collection of denim garments made in collaboration with Amy Leverton. Created under the banner of sustainability and memory.

Tonello Re-invented in Italy

We’re calling it Re-invented in Italy, the “inspiring” event Tonello has imagined for the next edition of Kingpins in Amsterdam (24-25 October). This is going to be a fascinating journey through time to rediscover the origins of “Made in Italy”, the origins of that “golden age” where a magical and propitious mix of talent and craftsmanship, style and know-how, genius and production capacity irreversibly changed the history of jeans, transforming them from “commodity-garments” into extraordinary interpreters of the contemporary.

Tonello has launched a tempting and difficult challenge to Amy Leverton, author of Denim Dudes: a challenge to create a denim collection inspired by the triple imperative of “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle”. Reduce energy consumption as well as water and chemical products; reuse, to give new life to vintage garments; recycle fibers and materials.

A unique collection has been created from this encounter between Tonello’s sustainable technologies and Amy Leverton’s creativity – a collection consisting of jeans, shorts, jackets, dungarees, and t-shirts… – all produced using recycled denim fabrics from Candiani DenimTejidos RoyoBossaOrta Anadolu and Arvind. Details and elements from vintage items of Italian brands (Diesel, Replay, Benetton, Versace, Fiorucci, Iceberg, Ellesse, Enrico Coveri, Trussardi Jeans) have been applied to the garments; the labels, also made of recycled materials, are by Panama Trimmings.

The strength of this collection lies, above all, in its re-proposing fragments of collective memory, familiar elements, and deja-vu, in new and surprising ways and contexts. It does so thanks to the progressively evolved technologies that are increasingly able to combine the ethics of sustainability with the infinite options of creativity without limits.

Cheerful and surprising combinations, with an affectionately retro flavor; material compositions and 3D effects; a mix of fibers and carefree accessories; extra large sizes and improbable colors, perfectly integrated in the context: all this to reproduce the knowledge and taste of a highly energetic and primordial fashion, where every path was still open and every style was still allowed, where everything was, and still is, possible.

IN SHORT, A PLUNGE INTO THE PAST THAT WILL GIVE US “FEEL” OF WHERE THE FUTURE IS HEADING.

TONELLO – NYDD: SOMETHING REALLY MAGICAL IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN!

Art, Colors and Technology coming together to explore new possibilities and create something surprising, sustainable, and in an exclusive edition for the New York Denim Days 2018.

Tonello New York Denim Days 2018

This year the NYDD hosts a really unique event featuring the art of Holly Brown (Clockworks Press) and Juan Manuel Gomez (deverazul), using Recycrom dyes (100% derivatived from recycling textile fibers and production waste) produced by Officina+39, and Tonello technologies like Laser Blaze and the All-in-one System that will give life to an unrepeatable and above all sustainable happening.

Tonello New York Denim Days 2018EVERYTHING WILL HAPPEN AT THE METROPOLITAN PAVILION – 125 WEST 18TH STREET, NYC. WE’LL BE THERE, WAITING FOR YOU!

Together and in real we will print the creations of Holly and Juan Manuel on limited edition T-shirts that will be the result of a totally ecological process.

Inspiring and creating connections between art, colors, and technology to demonstrate that sustainability is not a utopia, or a limit, but a fantastic opportunity to do something great.

In short, technology meets creativity. Again.

DENIM GALLERY: THE DREAM OF SERENA CONTI COMES TRUE

The first week of June we had the pleasure to spend some time with Serena Conti, one of the great designers of the Denim Gallery. Following her victory, she came back at our Creative Area to claim her prize and create her interesting project.

Specialized in fashion design and illustration, Serena was awarded as the first prize winner of the Denim Gallery competition. “Waterloove” e “Boro Texnology” were the concepts that helped her drawing the attention of the jury, composed by some of the world’s greatest denim makers. Reality and Vision are the two different representations of the same story: on one side the reality as a nostalgic and troubled past; on the other side the connection between technology and romanticism.

Serena moved away from these issues – but not from denim – for a greater attention to craftsmanship and illustration. Once again the result was impressive. Indeed, she succeeded in creating a real denim artwork, defined by handmade details and lasered prints.

An intense week where Serena had the chance to create, experience and have fun seeing her project taking shape. The designer’s illustration has been reproduced with the Laser Blaze that imprinted drawings with an oriental style on large denim canvas. Then, Serena personalized everything manually, with brush strokes of flamboyant colors. A story starring sinuous koi carps and fairy mermaids in a modern retelling, for a remarkable achievement made by a great designer.

THE ALL-IN-ONE SYSTEM: EVERYTHING YOU NEED IN A SINGLE MACHINE

A single machine for performing all the finishing operations on the garment: this is the path that we have chosen to tangibly respond to the market’s most sophisticated demands, with an approach oriented towards sustainability and transparency. And, of course, flexibility. Because the “system” has been created specifically in order to adapt to the most diverse necessities.

Tonello All-in-one system

Our all-in-one system has become a reality with the arrival of ECOfree 2 being added to the already proven NoStone®Core, and Up.

The system saves energy, reducing water and chemical consumption, cutting down processing times and total production costs: respecting the environment, reducing manual labor and protecting the health of operators.

  • ECOfree 2 is the latest washing technology using ozone in the water and ozone in the air, the definitive treatment. Three systems in one, to guarantee the best performance on the garment, fewer manual operations and a huge reduction in water and chemical consumption. With ECOfree 2 the unstoppable finishing revolution continues.
  • NoStone®, developed in collaboration with Levi Strauss and first prize winner at ITMA 2015, allows obtaining a stone-washed effect without using pumice stone (and therefore without pumice’s disadvantages, both economic and environmental). Other pluses include reduced manual labor and increased safety, as well as less water needed for purification and no more sludge to dispose of.
  • UP optimizes garment washing, reducing the bath ratio (LR 2: 1) to levels never seen before. It also drastically reduces energy consumption, reducing processing times and costs.
  • Finally, Core, which permits creating effects and applying products to garments, increasing performance and reducing water consumption by up to 96%. Impressive savings in product use and shorter processing times are the other benefits.

ECOFREE 2: THE ALL-IN-ONE SYSTEM THAT PUTS EVERYTHING INSIDE ONE TECHNOLOGY

A single machine to realize all garment finishing processes: this is the direction we’ve taken to satisfy the most sophisticated requests, with an approach driven by transparency, sustainability and flexibility. With ECOfree 2 and our all-in-one system, we will be present, in April, at Simatex, Saigontex and Kingpins: 3 events to see live the new results of our research.

Tonello ECOfree 2 All-in-one system

From 50 to 100: that is, approximately, how many liters of water are consumed during the traditional finishing of a pair of jeans. A huge quantity, that didn’t include all the other steps that goes from the cotton fiber to the final consumer.

There are now many reliable and impartial sources that indicate that water is becoming a constant problem in our future. These same sources also show that even now, as many as 750 million people lack a sufficient amount of clean, drinkable water.

The production of a simple pair of jeans is an integral part of this global problem.

In order to reduce the amount of water used during processing garments, for many years Tonello has been involved in the development of increasingly efficient and clean production processes.
CoreNoStone® and UP are just a few of the technologies that have come to light and are helping to reach an all-around responsible solution.

Now, thanks to the latest application of ECOfree 2, this goal has never been so close.

By combining all of Tonello technologies, it is possible to reduce the water consumption of a pair of jeans to an absolute minimum and granting, at the same time, access to an endless range of esthetics and looks. Because you should also please the eye.

What is more, is that everything can be done in the same washing machine, ensuring maximum flexibility and adaptability to all kind of needs. In short, an all-in-one system ready to transform your biggest ideas into the greatest garments, with the minimum consumptions.

REALIDAD Y VISIÓN: TODA LA TONELLO DENIM GALLERY EN COLOMBIATEX 2018

By:

After Amsterdam, Dhaka, Munich and New York, the Tonello Denim Gallery lands next month in Medellín. From January 23 to 25, join us at Colombiatex de las Américas and discover the collection celebrating the limitless potential of jeans, combining art and fashion, painting and performance, in a kaleidoscopic mix of contemporary languages.

Grace Warland, Matias Sandoval, Serena Conti, Su Kim and Jon Rouleau, Mika Mitarai, Juan Manuel Gomez, Ilinca Trif, Stefan Vella, and Greta Giannini: these are the names of the artists-designers who have freely expressed their “emotions”. In the first part of the project, they expressed cathartic representations of the reality we live in. The second part is devoted to the vision of possible worlds. With their works the designers wanted to write their hopes and fears on denim, but also to weave dreams of a better future, made up of connections between people, a relaunching of deep and human values, as the only antidote to a reality that offers more and more disturbing prospects. And Tonello reinterprets these answers, taking full advantage of the latest technologies: from Laser Blaze to ECOfree 2, from Bohemia to NoStone®, from Ecospray to Core.

The winner of the contest had already been selected during the “Inspiring” event by a jury that included some of the most important denim makers in the world. On the first day of New York Denim Days, Serena Conti was acclaimed as the first place winner, followed by Matias Sandoval, second, and Mika Mitarai, third. As the winner, Serena won an entire week of “creative freedom” at our Creative Area, where she could develop her own collection, experimenting without limits.

MEET US IN COLOMBIATEX, AT THE “ZONA URBANA”, FROM JANUARY 23 TO 25.
